ACT The Acupuncture for Childbirth Team, Oxfordshire
The Acupuncture for Childbirth Team, Oxfordshire, was founded in 2001 with the intention to bring together a team of acupuncturists interested in treating in pregnancy and to help accomodate rota coverage for labours.
From the outset the Team was established to operate within county borders, for ease of connection to the existing PCT and NHS systems. The team was set up with the intention of offering an integrated service, and has held contracts with the John Radcliffe Hospitals Trust since its inception.
ACT has grown from stregnth to strength and is an active part of pregnancy care in Oxfordshire, with the enthusiastic support of hospital, community and independant midwives.
In 2006 it was decided to add fertility treatment to the agenda of the group as so many of the member practitioners were offering this support as well as pregnancy work.
ACT is a professional interest group that is dedicated to supporting couples throughout all aspects of fertility, antenatal, labour and post partum treatment.
This group are all members of the British Acupuncture Council and have qualified after a 3 year course of study, Lic Ac MBAcC.
Membership to ACT is on the basis of Continuing Professional Development, CPD, through an undertaking of post graduate study in the fields of gynaecology and fertility, and obstetrics, both Chinese and Western.
Requirement for membership is attendance of post graduate courses in these fields, essentially in Obstetrics.
Membership to ACT indicates a special interest in the treatment for fertility and pregnancy with traditional acupuncture and presumes a commitment to ongoing study.
